ThatC64Guy: Retro Commodore 64 Gaming & Programming

The Journey of a Lifetime

For many of us, the C64 wasn’t just a computer; it was our first portal into digital worlds. I still remember the glow of the CRT, the sound of a Commodore 64 game loading from tape with a symphony of electronic chaos, and the rhythmic whirring of the 1541 disk drive from my childhood. That passion never truly faded, but lately, it has been set ablaze once more.

With the recent resurgence of retro computing, the C64 is more relevant than ever. Thanks to the incredible work of YouTuber Christian Simpson who bought the Commodore brand and launched the Commodore 64 Ultimate, the hardware we love is back on shop shelves and in our living rooms. Whether you are a “Breadbin” purist or looking forward to the sleek, upcoming Commodore C64C Ultimate (recreated using those iconic 1986 molds!), there has never been a better time to be a Commodore enthusiast.

Commodore 64 Games, Videos & Projects

This website is a tribute to the 64KB machine we all grew to love. It’s aimed at anyone who shares a love for the Commodore 64, the staying up late (usually after your parents told you to go to bed) loading in a game, or hours sitting in front of a CRT and your C64 programming games from a book or magazine.

And it’s this love of programming C64 games that I’m proud to host a personal library of games right here that I have not just coded from books or magazines of the era, but have modified them to make them my own – and for you to enjoy. These aren’t just lines of code—they are a labour of love – sometimes designed to push the limits of the hardware we grew up with.

Download My Custom C64 Games

You can view a listing of all the games I’ve programmed either from books and magazines of the day, or original programs I’ve written right here on this website. Here you’ll find information about the game, and can download the program to load on your own Commodore 64.

Get the Games via FrontierBBS

If you want to go old-school (and why not seeing as we’re harking back to the 80’s and 90’s), my games are available for download on the fantastic FrontierBBS. You can find out how to download SyncTerm and log on to the BBS by visiting our Frontier BBS page.

Watch my YouTube Videos

I’ve curated a number of videos featuring retro Commodore 64 games and demos. Head on over to my Videos page to watch a selection, or visit my YouTube channel.

Why the C64 Still Rules in 2026

The C64 community is unique because it refuses to let “limitations” stand in the way of creativity. From modern FPGA recreations to incredible new “impossible” ports, the scene is more alive now than it was in the 80s.

So, whether you’re here to grab some software, talk shop about the new C64C, or just indulge in a bit of nostalgia, welcome. Let’s keep the 8-bit dream alive.

Stay 8-bit,

ThatC64Guy
